Practicing on a bank helped me to nail my first table top jump yesterday. Using a bank before attempting table tops is recommended by post and video by pro @philkmetz in his blog post/video at http://philkmetz.com/videos/2016/4/11/how-to-jump-a-mountain-bike After a half dozen or so runs up the bank, I added a cone to see if I could get higher. That gave me enough confidence to take a run at the small table top jump in our local skills park. Voila! I can see I need to crouch lower on my approach so that I can get more height when I unweight/unload upwards as my back wheel hits. That extra height would mean I'd need less speed, as I overshot the table top a bit on that last run. I'm psyched to have a whole new world opening up to me.
